Humdinger of a Project: Tracing Slang to Ireland

I have known for a long time that a lot of our slang comes from Gaelic ever since I took Scottish Gaelic classes back in the 90s. It never occurred to me to write a book about it, but, hey, when would I have had the time?

This is interesting, anyway.

Interesting; I love things etymological.
You are no doubt also aware that much of US slang is Yiddish as well, and of course African American.
And it seems to me that cowboy music [the 1890s time period] is largely derived from Irish popular and traditiional music of the time. There were a lot of Irish cowboys. 'Negroes' too.

Very true! Also, "Cowboy culture", in my opinion, should be considered a continuation of the Celtic western migration. It has a lot of very Celtic elements, and the Scots-Irish immigrants influence on the push West is unmistakable.
